Millennium Generation leadership

There is a growing trend worldwide of where employees trust management less and less exasperated during this Covid pandemic. In addition to this, employers now have to cater to the ever-increasing millennial generation, the first generation to truly witness the advent of technology like the internet, virtual reality and artificial intelligence from a very young age, various traits that people of this generation have. On average, after graduating from college, a millennial will change jobs four times before they are 32. Many of them also don’t feel empowered in their current jobs.

Leaders are failing to foster a sense of trust and loyalty in their employees. Some of the traits of the millennium generation are

  2. Challenges the hierarchy status-quo
  3. Places importance on relationships with superiors
  4. Intuitive knowledge of technology
  5. Open and adaptive to change
  6. Places importance on tasks rather than time
  7. Passion for learning
  8. Openly receptive to feedback and recognition
  9. Free-thinking and creative
  10. Values social interactions in the workplace

Leaders sit with the challenge of working with different generations and millennials who will form the bedrock of companies and can be the biggest drivers of change and innovation.

Leaders will have to have the following qualities

  1. Integrity in both workplace and home
  2. Excellent communication skills that will cut across generations
  3. Sincere enthusiasm towards employees, peers and colleagues and the work at hand
  4. Loyalty that is reciprocal and genuine
  5. Decisive and unwavering but willing to admit mistakes and own it
  6. Competent as managers and the areas they manage and deserving of their positions as managers
  7. Empowering their employees and constantly upskilling and training employees.
  8. Charisma is an important trait
